About The Author

Susan Krauss Whitbourne, Ph.D. is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts- Amherst. She is one of the pioneers of the field of adult development and aging. The author of numerous books and articles, she has also appeared in the national media including The New York Times, Newsweek, The Boston Globe, Redbook, More Magazine and Glamour.  Her work has been a topic of interviews on the Discovery Health Channel and the online guide to the PBS series Discovering Psychology.

 

She has received major teaching and mentoring awards both nationally and at her university.  A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, American Psychological Society, and Gerontological Society of America, she serves in a variety of leadership roles.

 

At the University of Massachusetts, she teaches large lecture courses in introductory psychology and the psychology of aging. In addition, she coordinates the Aging and Development Lab where both undergraduate and graduate students conduct research on personality, aging, and cognition.

 

The mother of two daughters, she resides in Amherst Massachusetts with her husband. Her hobbies include knitting, aerobics, and piano.
