Games and Cognition

I once had a student who introduced me to an online game called "Bejeweled." My experiences with that game eventually led to the development of the "Aging, Bejeweled, and Cognition Study" conducted at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst campus. You can read more about the events that led to the development of this study by reading my Psychology Today article "Old Dogs (and People and Monkeys!) Can Learn New Tricks. The article is brief, and it will provide you with some background information about the games involved in the study and how games affect our cognition. The "Aging, Bejeweled, and Cognition Study" has recently received extensive media coverage, and you can read the articles concerning the study by clicking here.

About the Online Games and Cognition Survey

The purpose of this online survey is to gather more information about people's computer gaming habits. We are focusing on Bejeweled and Bejeweled Blitz for this study because they are popular, free, and have certain cognitive aspects that are conducive to our studies. Even if you do not play computer games or have never played a form of Bejeweled, please take the survey since we have questions designed for respondents belonging to these particular groups. If you'd like to read about academic studies which have focused on games and cognition, you can click on the article links in the "Learn More!" section.

The data obtained through this online survey will be used for research purposes; however, your responses are completely anonymous. Since the research is conducted in conjunction with the University of Massachusetts- Amherst, if you would like to take the quiz, then you need to read a brief consent form. If you agree to participate in the study, you will be directed to the questionnaire. The total time to complete the survey should be no more than 5 minutes. Thank you for taking your time to help us! We believe that the resources after the quiz will help you, too!
